Rock cairns at the sacred mountain of Seorak-san
Korea’s most beautiful and best-loved National Park, actually the southern half of the fabled Diamond Mountains now in North Korea. Situated on the east coast of Gangwon Province just below the DMZ, the “Snowy-peaks Mountains” (named after the Himalayas) feature spectacular craggy peaks and valleys. This dramatic landscape was once a major center of Korean Buddhism, and he is still host to several famous monasteries founded in the 7th Century CE, including Shinheung-sa. This park draws more than 3 million tourists per year.
